ATLANTA – Flu activity continues to decline in the USA as flu season winds down. However, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) says that the 2024-2025 flu season was the deadliest for children in years. So far, 26,000 deaths have been counted, with 216 pediatric deaths.
The CDC estimates that 47 million Americans contracted the flu this season, with 610,000 requiring hospitalization. According to a weekly CDC information release, the cumulative hospitalization rate is the highest since 2010-2011. Influenza A appears to be the dominant virus type, and the CDC continues to report no human-to-human transmissions of avian flu viruses.
Flu activity in Washington is currently rated as “low.” The CDC advises that everyone 6 months and older receive an annual flu vaccine.
