MOSES LAKE — A reckless driver crashed into and damaged the Starbucks on Kittleson Dr. on Saturday morning. Police say that 61-year-old Gregery Kaufmann of Moses Lake was driving his 1984 Ford pickup when it left the roadway and collided with the store drive-thru, causing significant damage to the store.

Witnesses reported seeing Kaufmann driving dangerously while wearing headphones before the crash. Evidence also indicated that Kaufmann had overaccelerated while turning from Maiers Rd. to Kittleson. Pursuant to RCW 46.37.480, it is illegal to operate a motor vehicle in Washington while wearing headphones.

At least one Starbucks employee was injured, Kaufmann was not. The store was forced to close for at least the day. Kaufmann was cited for reckless driving. He told responding officers that he was “screwing around.” An MLPD Facebook post indicated that Kaufmann’s actual language was more colorful.
