OLYMPIA, Wash. — The Washington State Patrol has announced that emphasis patrols are coming as WSU’s Cougs return to school to kick off the fall semester. Look for an elevated presence of troopers from Friday through Sunday on I-90 from Snoqualmie Pass to the Vantage Bridge, and along the entire length of State Route 26. They will be focusing on speeding, distracted driving, impaired driving, and other behaviors that could lead to crashes.
According to a press release, Washington State Patrol says that troopers in District 6, which covers Kittitas, Grant, and parts of Adams counties, have responded to 12 fatal incidents so far this year. The back-to-school season after summer break historically sees an increase in accidents.
“Drivers are reminded to pay close attention to changing speed limits as they travel across the state. Troopers will also have zero tolerance for impaired driving. In addition, motorists should eliminate distractions and remain focused on the safe operation of their vehicles,” the press release added.
