MOSES LAKE – A 14-year-old boy from Mattawa has been arrested as a suspect in the March 21st shooting in Moses Lake. The shooting on Loop Drive left another 14-year-old boy dead and injured four others including three minors.
The teen was arrested at Kadlec Hospital in Richland on the evening of March 24th. He was seeking treatment for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the lower leg. According to MLPD Capt. Jeff Sursley, detectives “believe the wound was self-inflicted during the shooting.” The suspect was booked into juvenile detention on 1st degree murder charges. There is no word yet if the suspect will be tried as an adult.
Capt. Sursley provided an update on the case during the March 25th Moses Lake City Council meeting. He said that warrants have also been issued for two adults on suspicion of first-degree murder. That information was not included in the update Sursley provided to the media earlier in the day. Both adult suspects remain at-large. MLPD believes that the 14-year-old suspect is the gunman.
Another MPLD update is expected on March 26th.
