BEAVERTON – U.S. Marshals, with the assistance of the Washington County Sheriff’s Department, arrested 18-year-old Matthew Valdez early Friday morning in Beaverton, Oregon.

Valdez was wanted on suspicion of first-degree murder for his alleged role in a fatal shooting on March 21. A 14-year-old Moses Lake boy was killed in that incident. Four others including three minors were critically injured. All survivors have been released from hospital.

One of the victims, 26-year-old Crystal Santoyo, of Moses Lake is engaged to MLPD detective Juan Serrato. MLPD Capt. Jeff Sursley said he does not believe there is a connection between the shooting and Serrato’s work.

Authorities are still hunting 20-year-old Jose Beltran-Rodriguez of Moses Lake. “Beltran-Rodriguez is a suspected member of the transnational criminal gang Norteños, involved in drug trafficking, violent assaults, robbery, homicide, money laundering, and unlawful firearm possession,” according to a release from the U.S. Marshals. He is considered armed and dangerous, and members of the public should not approach him. U.S. Marshals are offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to his capture.

Moses Lake Police Department says that a high-risk traffic stop was conducted in Moses Lake. A suspect wanted for rendering criminal assistance was located. Three people were detained for questioning.
