OTHELLO – The weather was perfect for thousands of kids and their families who descended upon the Lions Park Athletic Complex for an Easter eggstravaganza of epic proportions. The event, organized by the Othello Holiday Committee, which also arranges the Miracle on Main Street event in December, pulled out all the stops this year.
The egg hunt portion of the event was divided into five age groups plus a group for special needs children. Tania Morelos, one of the event organizers, said this year’s event was significantly larger than in the past. “We went from 6,000 eggs last year to over 30,000 eggs this year,” she said. Students from the McFarland Middle School AVID program and other volunteers helped fill the eggs with treats.
Throughout the event, children had the opportunity to win donated prizes. Gifts included easter baskets, bicycles, electronic devices, and an e-bike valued at over $600. The event also featured face painting, food vendors, and inflatables.
The committee thanked their numerous donors in a Facebook post on Saturday morning. “Over the past few weeks, our community has witnessed the outpouring of generosity from local businesses and the love our committee has shown in recognizing each and every one of you in your own special way. You are truly the heart of our events,” they said.
Donors included Steve’s Refrigeration and Heating, Simplot, VIP Rentals, Othello Community Hospital, Bethel Church, Othello Christian Church, Imagine Realty, Caffeine Fix, T & T Designs, Krazy Kravings, FT Power, Pillar Fitness, Sage Hills Golf Club and RV Resort, Checos Mexican Cuisine, Thalia Lemus Photography, Paradise Nutrition, Let’s Bounce, Zuniga Trucking, Harvest Foods, and others.
