QUINCY – A nightmare journey for two young, abducted children from Oregon ended with their safe rescue near Quincy early Tuesday morning.
The series of events leading to their rescue began at around 7 p.m. Monday evening in the West Slope neighborhood of Washington County, Oregon. Deputies from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported kidnapping and determined that 26-year-old Trayviana Shoulders had kidnapped 3-year-old Zimaya Moore and 2-year-old Michael Qualls from their legal guardian. Shoulders is the biological, non-custodial mother of the children.
An Amber Alert was issued for a blue 2016 Mazda CX-5, Oregon license plate 423PDT. Hours later, the suspect vehicle was spotted by a Washington State Patrol trooper in Grant County. The trooper performed a precision immobilization technique (PIT) maneuver on Silica Road Northwest and, with assistance from a Grant County Sheriff’s Office deputy, was able to stop the vehicle, leading to the safe recovery of the children.
Shoulders was taken into custody without incident, along with 29-year-old Adan Osman Abdi, the driver of the vehicle.
The children are currently in protective custody and were unharmed according to law enforcement officials.
