Lind man wanted for theft, misappropriation of funds

RITZVILLE – A Lind man is wanted for theft and misappropriation of funds. Adams County Sheriff’s Office is searching for Jared Potts, a postal worker and former treasurer and fire chief for the Town of Hatton.

ACSO executed a search warrant in the 700 block of Longmeier Rd. on June 4. “The search followed an investigation initiated by the Washington State Auditor’s Office after concerns were brought forward by concerned citizens and Sheriff Wagner in 2023,” according to a press release.

“The Auditor’s Office investigation determined that Jared Matthew Potts, former Clerk-Treasurer and Fire Chief for the Town of Hatton, was responsible for the misappropriation of funds and theft of public money and property from the Town,” the Sheriff’s Office said.

During the search, deputies recovered items valued at over $33,000, which belonged to the Town of Hatton, including a defibrillator. They also located over 70 pieces of mail belonging to Adams and Grant County residents and checks from the Town of Hatton. Potts was not present at the time of the search. In total, Potts is suspected of misappropriating more than $72,000 in funds, according to the Washington State Auditor.

The ACSO press release says that Potts has connections in Adams, Grant, and Lincoln counties. If you have any information about his whereabouts, please get in touch with the Sheriff’s Office at (509) 659-1122. You may remain anonymous.
