OTHELLO – A 14-year-old Nevada boy has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle, and attempting to elude a pursuing police vehicle after leading police on a chase June 1. The incident ended in a rollover crash near the intersection of S. 7th Ave. and Gemstone St.

According to a release by Othello Police Department, the pursuit began after an officer observed a black 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer driving at high speed on Main St. A stop was initiated in the 100 block of S. 7th Ave., but the suspect drove off as the officer approached the vehicle. The chase speed exceeded 70 miles per hour on 7th Ave.

The chase came to an end when the fleeing vehicle crashed though barriers at the end of S. 7th Ave. The Trailblazer flipped at least once before coming to a rest.

The teen suspect was arrested and received medical treatment for non-life-threatening injuries before being transferred to Martin Hall Juvenile Facility. He was in Othello accompanying his father on a business trip when he stole the vehicle from a business parking lot, approximately three minutes before the pursuit began.
