OTHELLO — It’s a new era for haircuts in Othello. New Era – Truth Blends Barbershop celebrated its ribbon-cutting for a new shop inside Plaza on Main in Othello on Saturday. The Greater Othello Chamber of Commerce facilitated the day-long event, which featured music, food, raffle drawings, and, of course, haircuts. Family, friends, and haircut aficionados filled the hallways and balcony for the celebration.

Shop owner Eddie Arvizu recalled a career journey that started in his bedroom. “It makes me happy to see all you guys here. A lot of new faces, a lot of old faces, a lot of people who have been with me through the old times. You know, I’m talking ten years ago, when I would cut hair in my room. My bed was still in there. People were waiting on the bed to get a haircut.” Arvizu also said that he considers his customers to be family. “I don’t see them just as a client, you know? I see them just like a family.”

Arvizu also gave heartfelt thanks to his actual family, especially his dad, for their love and support.

Arvizu won’t be the only barber in the shop. He introduced Alex Fadezz and Berna Rodriguez as his colleagues. “I promise you guys, it’s the best haircut you’re gonna get.”

Angel Garza is the owner of Plaza on Main, which is the former CBHA clinic building at First and Main in Othello. He has converted it into a multi-use building featuring retail, a gym, and office space. “When we bought this place, this was pretty much all offices,” he said. “We opened it up and each and every one of our tenants designed their place to their needs.”

The New Era shop is modern, brightly lit, filled with screens for entertainment, and clean. It features black walls and ceiling tiles with cool-temperature LED lighting, ensuring that barbers can see their work clearly.

Following the opening remarks and ribbon cutting, guests spent time on the building patio enjoying tacos, drinks, music, and hoping that their number would be drawn for raffle giveaways.
