BENTON CITY — An early fall wildfire has erupted near Benton City as high winds blow across the region. By 6:15 p.m. on Friday the blaze had grown to more than 1,100 acres.

It is burning south of I-82 near an area between Webber Canyon Rd, Field Rd, and railroad tracks.

A level 3 GO NOW evacuation order has been issued for a subdivision accessed by North Valley Drive Way and Pear Drive. It includes Apple Drive, Cherry Drive, Berry Drive and Plum Drive. The order also covers the Kiona Village Community mobile home park.

State fire assistance has been mobilized under the Washington State Fire Services Resources Mobilization Plan. The Fire Protection Bureau has ordered six wildland fire strike teams to aid in confinement efforts.
